Two people, a few trusted collaborators, and a shared suspicion of the word “disruptive”.
Independent, remote, and willing to take the train.
An empty field. A useful idea.
How we got here
Forty websites. One empty field.
Ingrid and Mateo met at a big agency that shipped forty sites a year. There was rarely time to visit them afterwards. There was rarely a reason to.
In 2018 Ingrid spent six months at her grandmother’s farm in Estonia. The neighbouring field was left empty every third year. It wasn’t idle. It was gathering strength.
We founded Slow Field Studio the following year. Slow, because attention takes time. Field, because we go and see before we draw. Studio, because eventually you do have to make something.
The year-round people
Usually, it’s us.
No mysterious “wider team”.
I.Not a headshot person.
Ingrid Lund
Design & direction
Ingrid starts with a notebook and a journey. She cares about the sentence underneath the heading as much as the heading itself. Previously an agency designer. Still the person most likely to ask if anyone has actually read the brief aloud.
Keeps: field notes, seed packets, difficult questions.
M.Also not a headshot person.
Mateo Branco
Development & care
Mateo builds things that leave enough room for other people to understand them. He likes a fast page, a good error message, and software that knows when to stop. He is the reason the winter review exists.
Keeps: old bicycles, small files, promises.
Seasonal company
Some fields need other hands.
We bring collaborators in when the work needs their particular attention. You meet them. They are credited. Nobody is quietly behind a curtain.
Words & listening
Leila Okafor
A writer and interviewer who can find the useful sentence in an hour of conversation. Leila helped Common Ground sound like its residents, rather than its funding application.
Illustration & print
Oskar Tamm
An illustrator with an affection for imperfect lines and very exact margins. Oskar works with us when a drawing can explain what another paragraph cannot.
